On 11 February, the leading Italian financial newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore reported on a matter handled by Lawants, highlighting a significant legal development in the field of international arbitration: the recognition in Spain of an Italian informal arbitral award for an amount of €2.9 million.
The publication emphasises the complexity of the case, arising from a cross-border commercial dispute, as well as the challenges associated with enforcing such awards outside Italy, given that they fall outside the scope of the New York Convention of 1958.
In this context, Lawants’ international litigation team developed a strategy based on a contractual enforcement action, allowing the award to be treated as a binding obligation between the parties and therefore enforceable in Spain.
Coverage by a leading publication such as Il Sole 24 Ore enhances the international visibility of this outcome and underlines Lawants’ ability to successfully handle complex cross-border litigation, recognition of foreign decisions and asset recovery matters.
